Systems and controls
The importance of systems and controls cannot be underestimated as these provide a critical role in the identification, mitigation and monitoring of Conduct Risk issues. Robust systems and controls which react to the changing demands of businesses provide firms with the building blocks to demonstrate to customers, the regulator and other market stakeholders that their business is compliant.
Systems and controls are integral to embedding and supporting a compliant culture. It may not always be possible to eliminate fully conduct risk in a business but the systems and controls in place will play an important role in reducing and mitigating these risks. The FCA and PRA often seem to regard poor systems and controls as being one of the best measures of a firm’s culture.
