Quarterly Asia Employment Law Update Webinar
This webinar is of interest to those in both Asia and Europe with an interest in employment law in Asia. Time: 16:30 HK / 09:30 UK.
In this webinar, we will cover the following topics:
- a discussion of working hours and overtime requirements in the PRC following Jack Ma’s recent and controversial comments on 12 hour days. We will look at the discrepancies between law and practice and provide comparisons with Hong Kong and Singapore
- we will look at the recent decision of Hong Kong’s Court of Final Appeal in Leung Chun Kwong regarding spousal benefits for same sex partners and examine whether the decision could have wider implications for private sector employers
- we will analyse the Ministry of Manpower’s recently issued Tripartite Guidelines on Wrongful Dismissal in Singapore. In particular, all Singapore-based employees now have a right to seek reinstatement or compensation if their dismissal is “without just cause or excuse” - we will look in detail at what constitutes a “dismissal without just cause or excuse” and the obligations generally on employers when terminating staff in light of the new guidelines.
The webinar will be moderated by Russell Lamb (a consultant, based in our Hong Kong office). He will be joined by Matthew Durham (partner) from our Shanghai office and our colleague Marcus Teo (associate) from Simmons & Simmons JWS in Singapore.
