Dubai meets London - Invitation to FinTech opportunities in the MEASA region

FinTech Hive at DIFC is the leading Fintech accelerator in Dubai. EVP Raja Al Mazrouei will be joined on the panel by representatives from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and participating start-ups for a moderated discussion followed by Q&A.

FinTech Hive at DIFC, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority - Raja Al Mazrouei, Executive Vice President

Raja Al Mazrouei oversees the region’s first FinTech accelerator, which brings together Financial Institutions, Government entities, technology partners and entrepreneurs to develop technologies that benefit the financial industry. Ms. Al Mazrouei plays an integral role in building awareness, increasing media outreach and facilitating partnerships in emerging FinTech markets, such as China, India, the UK, the US and Africa, with the aim of positioning DIFC as the region’s leading innovation destination for FinTech. Prior her current role, Ms. Al Mazrouei was Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication at DIFC, where she oversaw the public relations, institutional partnerships, branding and digital marketing functions for the Centre on a regional and global scale. Previously, she held the position of Commissioner of Data Protection at DIFC, in addition to key roles as Head of Operations and Head of Information Technology at DIFC Authority.

DFSA - Elisabeth Wallace, Senior Manager in the Policy and Strategy Division

Elisabeth is responsible for developing policy in relation to FinTech activities (including Crowdfunding) as well as overseeing policy in relation to anti-money laundering. Prior to joining the DFSA, she was an Assistant Director at the Association of British Insurers (ABI), from 2006 - 2014. At the ABI, she managed team of policy advisers responsible for influencing UK and EU conduct regulation of the insurance and pension markets.

Delio - Gareth Lewis, CEO and Co-Founder of Delio

After beginning his career at IBM, he spent a number of years in mergers & acquisitions, working with EY and specialist investment boutique Convex Capital whilst training as a chartered accountant. Having had access to and sold businesses for a number of today’s entrepreneurial wealth creators, Gareth recognised that their needs and wants in the private investment space were being underserviced. Using his knowledge of the space and broader understanding of technology, he set out to help financial institutions deliver value in this increasingly relevant space.

Sarwa - Mark Chahwan, Co-founder and CEO of Sarwa

Sarwa is the first automated investment platform for young professionals in the Middle-East. He launched Sarwa after years of consulting for Canada’s largest financial institutions, as part of Accenture Strategy’s Financial Services practice. Prior to Accenture, Mark worked in asset management at Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ), one of Canada’s largest pension funds with $270bn+ in AUM. Mark earned his Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University where he studied finance and entrepreneurship.
