Meanwhile in Brussels: the debate on the future of the European Union
On 10 March 2017, the EU 27 political leaders met in Brussels to prepare a Declaration concerning the future of the European Union. They were guided in their discussions by a White Paper on the future of Europe that the European Commission recently published.

One of the side effects of the Brexit referendum has been a debate among the remaining 27 EU Member States on the future of the Union. This debate started immediately after the referendum and is expected to culminate in a Declaration that will be adopted at a summit to be held by the EU27 at the end of March 2017 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. On 10 March 2017, the EU 27 political leaders met in Brussels to prepare that Declaration. They were guided in their discussions by a White Paper on the future of Europe that the European Commission recently published.
