On Wednesday, 10 April 2019, Simmons & Simmons’ Milan office hosted a Digital Health conference as part of our international Digital Fusion campaign.
Nearly 70 individuals, many hailing from pharmaceutical and digital companies, attended the event. About Pharma - a leading Healthcare & Life Sciences publication - was a partner for the event.
Speakers included Milan partners Stefania Bergia, Giulio Enrico Sironi and Edoardo Tedeschi. Representatives from Blockchain Reply, McKinsey & Company, Sanofi and Takeda also spoke, bringing to the table their personal experiences in building successful partnerships.
The various discussions touched on how one of the greatest challenges facing the life sciences industry is the digital revolution that is changing companies’ business models and organisational structures. The speakers addressed how seizing digital health growth opportunities means that companies must acquire new skills by seeking out external partners with advanced digital capabilities that they can combine with their own traditional products and services.
Speakers addressed the following topics and issues:
- the value of strategic partnerships to accelerate the digital revolution in the life sciences industry
- copyright, patents, trade secrets and the protection of software and digital technologies in the medical field
- medical apps and EU regulations regarding medical devices
- IP protection of raw data, data analytics and insights
- big data and cyber security
- the impact of blockchain on the pharma industry, and
- due diligence processes.
