An insider's view

Kevin Mooney

Kevin, a partner in the intellectual property team in London, has for many years been the UK representative on the European Commission’s Expert Group, which was consulted on legal and procedural issues in relation to what are now the proposed Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court. Since 2012 he has chaired the committee working on the draft Rules of Procedure for the Unified Patent Court.

In addition to chairing the Rules of Procedure Committee, Kevin is the only UK lawyer on the Expert Group advising EU Member States on the implementation of the whole UPC project, and has also been closely involved in training judges for the new Court. In 2018, he was one of only 5 practitioners invited to give evidence to the EU Justice Sub-Committee of the House of Lords on the effect of Brexit on the UPC and the Unitary Patent.

See Kevin’s 24 September 2018 interview on the UPC for JUVE Patent here.
